Hannover 1847-B 10 thaler Fr-1175
This specimen was lot 1260 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 2,500 CHF (about US$3,626 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Braunschweig-Lüneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, Herzogtum, Ernst August, 1837-1851. 10 Taler 1847, Hannover. NGC MS62. Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung. Das durch NGC höchstbewertete Exemplar. (Germany, kingdom of Hannover, Ernest August, 1837-51, ten thaler of 1847, Hannover mint. Extraordinary condition, Finest certified by NGC.)"
Various types of ten thaler pieces were struck most years between 1813 and 1856; the type shown here was issued 1846-48 and is very scarce, tho the 1848 is the most common of the three dates. The kingdom of Hannover was the old duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg prior to the Napoleonic invasions. It was separated from the British crown in 1837 and absorbed by Prussia in 1866.
