Sincona sale 22, lot 1380

This specimen was lot 1380 in Sincona sale 22 (Zürich, May 2015), where it sold for 60 CHF (about US$75 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Hannover, ab 1814 Königreich, Georg IV. 1820-1830 16 Gute Groschen 1825. Hannover. Vorzüglich. (kingdom of Hannover, George IV (1820-30), 16 good groschen of 1825, Hannover mint, extremely fine.)"

The sixteen gute groschen was half a thaler; unusually for a minor coin, it was almost pure silver. It was issued for Hannover 1820-34. The denomination was terminated when the thaler was reduced from 23.54 g to 16.82 g. This particular type of 1822-30 is the most common.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 11.77 g, .993 fine silver, this specimen 11.71 g.

Catalog reference: KM 138, Kahnt 207.
