Sincona sale 22, lot 1379

This specimen was lot 1379 in Sincona sale 22 (Zürich, May 2015), where it sold for 80 CHF (about US$101 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Hannover, ab 1814 Königreich, Georg IV. 1820-1830 16 Gute Groschen 1822. Hannover. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (kingdom of Hannover, George IV (1820-30), 16 good groschen of 1822, Hannover mint, very fine to extremely fine.)"

The sixteen gute groschen was half a convention thaler; unusually for a minor coin, it was almost pure silver. It was issued for Hannover 1820-34. The denomination was terminated when the thaler was reduced from 23.54 g to 16.82 g. Three different reverse types are noted for 1822.
