Hannover 1795-PLM ducat Fr-618
This specimen was lot 3593 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €2,000 (about US$2,696 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-CALENBERG-HANNOVER, Georg III. 1760-1820. Dukat 1795, Clausthal. Ausbeute der Harzer Gruben. GOLD. RR Min. gewellt, fast vorzüglich. (Germany, electorate of Hannover, George III, 1760-1820, ducat of 1795, Clausthal mint, for the Harz mines. Slightly bent, about extremely fine.)"
Friedberg lists these ducats, minted from gold mined in the Harz mountains, for 1767-1818. The SCWC breaks the issue into three types, KM 359 (1767-89), KM 396 (1791-1800, shown here) and KM 111 (1815 and 1818). All are scarce. The Duchy of Brunswick was divided and subdivided in the seventeenth century but was eventually reassembled as the Kingdom of Hannover before being absorbed into Prussia in 1866.
