Hannover 1783-CES 1/3 thaler
This specimen was lot 74584 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 12 Mariengroschen (1/3 Taler), 1783-CES. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg III (George III of Great Britain). PCGS AU-55. The old cabinet toning of this piece charmingly highlights the design details. The reverse is an enchanting mix of brilliant luster in protected areas and a mix of gold, russet and cobalt toning. Very attractive. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1762-84 for George III along with KM 374, with St. Andrew on the reverse.
