Sincona sale 83, lot 2573

This specimen was lot 2573 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 180 CHF (about US$241 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Braunschweig-Lüneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, Herzogtum, Georg II. 1727-1760. 1/3 Taler 1746, Zellerfeld. 6.45 g. Feinsilber. Mit der Münzmeistersignatur IBH. Smith 151. Welter 2600. Selten. Fast vorzüglich (Rare, About extremely fine)." The 12 mariengroschen was terminated after 1715. This one-third thaler, which superseded it, was struck 1737-60. Another one-third thaler struck in 1746 featured the St. Andrew reverse.
