Stack's Bowers September 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74556

This specimen was lot 74556 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 24 Mariengroschen (2/3 Taler), 1742-IBH. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg II August (George II of Great Britain). PCGS AU-58. A lustrous example with hints of champagne toning in the protected areas. Attractive. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." The SCWC records four different gulden for 1742: KM 228 (leaping stallion reverse), KM 229 (wild man, shown here), KM 276 (bust obverse) and KM 277 (leaping stallion). This one was struck 1730-43 and is by far the most common.
