This specimen is from a type struck for Haiti in 1958 and 1970. It is accompanied by a similar five and twenty centimes coins, also common. The portrait is of the much-reviled François "Papa Doc" Duvalier, "President for Life" of Haiti. He had many critics, who all took care to stay out of the reach of his secret police.
Recorded mintage: 15,000,000.
