This specimen was lot 676 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $2,280. The catalog description[1] noted, "GUJARAT: Nasir al-Din Mahmud III, 1537-1553, AV tanka, NM, AH951, lightly tooled but still very attractive, NGC graded AU details." The sultanate of Gujarat was a Muslim state on the west coast of India to the south of Kutch. It was founded by Zafar Khan Muzaffar, who declared himself independent of the Delhi sultanate in 1407. Weakened by Portuguese and Mughal attacks, the sultanate was conquered and the last sultan committed suicide in 1591.
