The first specimen was lot 75162 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Sultans of Gujarat. 1/6 Tanka, AH 941 (1534). Qutb al-Din Bahadur. NGC MS-65. A gleaming and less commonly encountered Gem, this handsome Tangka delivers a sharp strike and soft luster, along with some handsome toning." The second specimen was lot 47616 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $145. The catalog description[2] noted, "INDIA. Gujarat Sultanate. 1/6 Tanka, AH 941 (1534/5). Qutb al-Din Bahadur Shah. NGC MS-65." The sultanate of Gujarat was a Muslim state on the west coast of India to the south of Kutch. It was founded by Zafar Khan Muzaffar, who declared himself independent of the Delhi sultanate in 1407. Weakened by Portuguese and Mughal attacks, the sultanate was conquered and the last sultan committed suicide in 1591.
