Guatemala 1892 4 reales
This specimen was lot 30975 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $822.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 4 Reales 1892 VF25 NGC, Guatemala mint. 0.835 fineness one-year type with only 2600 struck. Very elusive with about ten reported. The doubled striking on a coin this size probably relates to the difficulties the Guatemala City mint was having with its machinery in this period right before the Heaton mint was contracted. Ex. Freeman Craig Senior (1988). From The Dana Roberts Collection." This four reales is a variation on the familiar slouched Justice type struck 1873-79 and 1892-94. This date is rare, probably melted after the 0.835 fine alloy was rejected.
