Guatemala 1811-NG M 2 reales
This specimen was part of lot 35306 in Heritage sale 3038 (Dallas, January 2015), which sold for $822.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferdinand VII Lot of Fifteen 2 Reales Coins, KM62 & KM67. Various dates and grades. Average grade is VG/Fine. From The Santa Maria Collection." This specimen is an example of a type struck in Guatemala 1811-21 with a few backdated 1808. This "standard bust" two reales is the most common two reales from Guatemala with 1821 as the most common date. Guatemala avoided the violence that devastated Mexico during the war of independence but joined Iturbide's empire in 1821.
