Aureo sale 238, lot 96

This specimen was lot 96 in Aureo & Calicó sale 238 (Barcelona, November 2011), where it sold for 321 euro (about US$509 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1807. Guatemala. M. 8 reales. Bella. Parte de brillo original. Rara así. EBC-/EBC. (eight reales of 1807, Guatemala mint. handsome, partial luster, rare thus, extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1791-1808 for Charles IV but the four reales are actually slightly more common. Assayer M is recorded for 1786-1823.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.896 fine silver, .780 troy oz ASW.
