This specimen was lot 125 in Sedwick sale 25 (Winter Park, FL, May 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Guatemala, bust 2 escudos, Charles III, 1785M, rare. Problem-free XF with muted luster, desirable specimen, typically rare and highly sought like all Guatemala colonial gold." It was offered again as lot 1015 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $4,800. The catalog description[2] noted, "GUATEMALA: Carlos III, 1759-1788, AV 2 escudos, 1785-NG, Nueva Guatemala mint, assayer M, an attractive example, VF. A highly desirable Guatemala gold issue with only a few examples present on CoinArchives!" This type was struck at Guatemala 1781, 1783 and 1785 only and all dates are rare.
