This specimen was lot 2023 in Sedwick sale 34 (Winter Park, FL, November 2023), where it sold for $204. The catalog description[1] noted, "Guatemala, cob 2 reales, 1745 (J). Holed VG with partial date, pillars, and shield, interesting long flan." This type was struck 1732-46 on dies intended for pillar coinage but, as the mint lacked machinery to cut round planchets, the coins were struck on cob planchets instead. Some effort was made to center them properly, and most have legible dates and mintmarks.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 6.77 g, 0.917 fine silver, this specimen 6.07 grams.
