Groningen-Ommelanden 1673 28 stuivers
This specimen was lot 561 in Schulman auction 379 (Amsterdam, June 2024), where it sold for €610 (about US$784 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"GRONINGEN Provincie 1581 - 1795. 28 Stuiver of florijn. 1673, Silver Type Ic. Groot borstbeeld met hoed en zwaard naar rechts tussen jaartal. BELGICA. LIBERTAS. AVRO. PRETIOSIOR. OMNI. Kz. gekroond provinciewapen tussen waarde 28 - ST. Omschrift FLOR....GRON. ET. OML. begint boven de kroon.Met klop A10: G.O in rechthoek. Zeer zeldzaam jaar Munt: Fraai+. Klop: Zeer fraai. Aantrekkelijke patina. (province of Groningen, silver 28 stuivers or florin, type Ic. Obverse: large bust with hat and sword to right divides the date; reverse: crowned provincial arms between the value 28 - ST, inscription starts above the crown. With counterstamp "G·O" in rectangle. Very rare date; host coin Fine, counterstamp Very fine. Attractive patina.)"
This type was struck 1671-75. Many of these were counterstamped in the early 1690's in an attempt to thwart counterfeiters.
