The modern nation of Greece obtained independence from Ottoman Turkey in 1833. It functioned as a monarchy from that year until 1925 and again from 1935-1974. Coins from these periods often feature a crown a part of the design. Today the country is the Hellenic Republic of Greece. The coin shown is a silver drachma minted in Paris (privy marks) 1910-11. It was accompanied by a silver two drachmai and was the last silver issue before World War One wrecked the hard currency system. This specimen was lot 45002 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $70. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREECE. Drachma, 1910. Paris Mint.
