Jean Elsen sale 137, lot 1294

This specimen was lot 1294 in Jean Elsen sale 137 (Brussels, June 2018), where it sold for €550 (about US$765 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"GRECE, Georges Ier (1863-1913), AR 2 drachmes, 1873A, Paris. Petits coups. Belle patine. presque Superbe. (kingdom of Greece, George I, 1863-1913, silver two drachmas of 1873, Paris mint. Minor nicks, nice patina, about Extremely Fine.)"

This type was struck 1868, 1873 and 1883 at Paris and is scarce. However, it is one of the few Greek silver coins of the nineteenth century which is somewhat available.

Recorded mintage: 839,000.

Specification: 10 g, 0.835 fine silver.
