Stack's Bowers 2021 NYINC sale, lot 23821

This specimen was lot 23821 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $528. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Sovereign, 2009. PCGS PROOF-69 Deep Cameo Gold Shield. A bright and lustrous example exhibiting a sharp strike with hard mirrored fields and frosted devices. Free of tone, haze or fog. From the Collection of Richard Jewell." This type was struck 2009-15 for sale to collectors and did not circulate altho some show signs of mishandling. It varies from the issue of 1998-2008 (KM 1002) by lacking the horsehair tail on the helmet of St. George.

Recorded mintage: 75,000 plus 12,500 proofs.

Specification: 7.99 g, 0.917 fine gold, 22 mm diameter, 0.2355 troy oz AGW.
