Great Britain 2002 1/2 sovereign KM-1025
This specimen was lot 1672 in Jean Elsen sale 156 (Brussels, September 2023), where it sold for €240 (about US$308 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"GRANDE-BRETAGNE, Elisabeth II (1952-2022), AV demi-souverain, 2002. Ecrin et certificat. Flan poli. (kingdom of Great Britain, Elizabeth II, 1952-2022, gold half sovereign of 2002. Proof, includes box and certificate.)"
This type was struck and sold to collectors and bullion dealers at its gold price, not its nominal face value of fifty pence. Another half sovereign with St. George and the dragon on the reverse (KM 1001) was also produced in 2002.
Recorded mintage: 61,347 plus 10,000 proofs.
