This specimen was lot 40224 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Florin, 1942. London Mint. George VI. NGC PROOF-63. Not often encountered as a proof, this Choice specimen represents the only such occurrence in the NGC census. Supremely enticing and robust, with a subtle burnished tone and great brilliance throughout." This type was struck 1937-46 and is common. In 1947, the silver coinage was converted to copper-nickel to release precious metal for the payment of American war loans. The denomination survived the transition to decimal coinage as a ten pence piece but was finally demonetized in 1992.
