This specimen was lot 31787 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain: George VI Proof Specimen Florin 1943 SP66 NGC. A very rare off-year Proof of Record, given a sublime satiny finish befitting its special issue. Its eye appeal superb, only a very minor green spot in the date on the otherwise flowing, pristine silver surfaces." This type was struck 1937-46 and is common. In 1947, the silver coinage was converted to copper-nickel to release precious metal for the payment of American war loans. The denomination survived the transition to decimal coinage as a ten pence piece but was finally demonetized in 1992.
