This specimen was lot 21236 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $1,150. The catalog description[1] noted, "George VI Matte Proof Halfpenny 1937, Golden Hind ship design, Matte PF62 BN NGC, slight disturbance to the original look of the surfaces but nonetheless quite choice and russet in appearance, and a major modern rarity. Unlisted in the 2010 SCBC but the silver pieces are all stated to be "of highest rarity." First appearance in our auctions!" This type was struck 1937-48 in substantial quantities and all dates are common tho matte proofs are rare. The half penny was terminated in 1970.

Recorded mintage: 24,504,000 plus 26,000 proofs plus a few matte proofs.

Specification: 5.6 g, bronze, 25.5 mm diameter.
