This specimen was part of lot 70824 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), which for $576. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Maundy Set (4 Pieces), 1892. London Mint. Victoria. All PCGS Gold Shield Certified. 1) 4 Pence. PCGS PROOFLIKE-67 Gold Shield. 2) 3 Pence. PCGS PROOFLIKE-67+ Gold Shield. 3) 2 Pence. PCGS PROOFLIKE-67 Gold Shield. 4) Pence. PCGS PROOFLIKE-67 Gold Shield. A stunning late Victorian set, attractively toned and preserved exceptionally well. Altogether, an item that would be difficult to replace." The silver penny was obsolete long before Victoria's reign and appeared only in the Maundy sets. This design was used 1887-92.
