This specimen was lot 74824 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Maundy Penny, 1886. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS MS-68. Despite its diminutive canvas, this coin offers generous helpings of cerulean, lilac, and gold - with hints of olive. An extremely high grade example that delights the eye." This type was struck 1838-87. By Victoria's reign, the silver penny had no circulating function and appeared only in the Maundy sets.
