This specimen was lot 30194 in Heritage Sale 3115 (Chicago, May 2024), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain: Victoria gold "St. George" Sovereign 1878 MS61 PCGS. From the Ezen Collection." This type was struck 1871-85 in considerable numbers. The obverse was carried over from the type of 1838-74 but the reverse revived the St. George and the dragon design last used in 1825.

Recorded mintage: 1,091,000, a common date.

Specification: 7.98 g, 0.917 fine gold.
