Künker sale 293, lot 1993

This specimen was lot 1993 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €240 (about US$290 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"GROSSBRITANNIEN, Victoria, 1837-1901. 6 Pence 1855, London. First young head. Prachtexemplar mit herrlicher Patina. Fast Stempelglanz. (kingdom of Great Britain, Victoria, 1837-1901, sixpence of 1855, young head. Prooflike with handsome patina, about uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1838-66 in large quantities with a slightly modified obverse continuing until 1887.

Recorded mintage: 1,129,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 2.82 g (not 3.01 g as reported in the SCWC), 0.925 fine silver, 19.3 mm diameter.
