This specimen was lot 4331 in Goldberg sale 65 (Los Angeles, September 2011), where it sold for $2,127.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain. Guinea, 1776. George III, 1760-1820. Obverse: Fourth laureate head right. Reverse: Crowned quartered shield of arms. A pleasing example of this ever-popular date, highly collectible for its obvious Colonial connections. NGC graded AU-55." This type, one of several used during George's long reign, is noted for 1774-86.
Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare.
