Sincona sale 75, lot 228

This specimen was lot 228 in Sincona sale 75 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 2,200 CHF (about US$2,670 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Grossbritannien | Königreich. George II. 1727-1760. 1/2 Guinea 1753, London. Old laureate head. NGC AU53." This head, the final one for George II, was used 1747-60. It is the first issue of this denomination that is not very scarce.

Specification: 4.18 g, 0.917 fine gold, .123 troy oz AGW, this specimen 4.14 g.
