Sincona sale 20, lot 2902

This specimen was lot 2902 in Sincona sale 19 (Zürich, October 2014), where it sold for CHF 3,000 (about US$3,760 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "2 Guineas 1740. Sehr schön-gutes sehr schön. (very fine or better.)" The two guinea denomination was struck intermittently during the first half of the eighteenth century. This type, struck 1739-40, tho not cheap, is occasionally available. An intermediate head type (KM 578) exists for 1739 as well.
