This specimen was lot 31608 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain: Anne Crown 1707 XF40 NGC. Pre-Union, SEXTO edge, roses & plumes in angles. Pleasingly toned a brooding gray with bright argent punctuation at the devices. Anne's portrait remains strong and well-detailed, wear to the highest points commensurate with the grade but overall limited distracting marks. An attractive specimen of the last pre-Union design Crown. From the Collection of a Berkshire Gentleman." The famous crown of queen Anne was the VIGO issue, made from from silver seized from Spanish ships in Vigo Bay during the War of the Spanish Succession. Other crowns were minted 1705-08 and 1713; all are scarce to rare. On pre-union crowns, like this one, the English and Scottish shields are separate; on post-union crowns, the two arms are impaled on one shield.
