This specimen was lot 34157 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain: Charles II 2 Pence 1678/6 MS63 NGC. A scarce overdate variety presented here with lovely mottled graphite tone and a striking amount of definition on the king's portrait for the type. Currently the finest example seen by either NGC or PCGS, and the only of this variety certified in Mint State. Ex. Heritage Long Beach Auction #3049, 8-13 September 2016, Lot 33159." This type was issued 1668-84 and is common up to VF. It is the only milled tuppence of Charles II. Altho this might seem an appropriate denomination for a copper coin, copper was used only for farthings and halfpennies until the late eighteenth century.
