This specimen was lot 33697 in Heritage sale 3106 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $2,040. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain: Anne copper Pattern 1/2 Penny ND (1702) PR63 Brown PCGS. A thoroughly stunning rendition and among Anne's most beautiful 1/2 Penny Patterns, showcasing a sensitively rendered portrait of the Queen and thistle reverse, imbued with glossy, reflective appearances and deep reflectivity." We have usually ignored patterns on this site but we include this as no half pence were struck for circulation during Anne's reign. The last half penny was struck in 1701 and the next would be in 1717. The SCWC attributes this to circa 1707 but we consider 1702 more likely. New coin designs are likely to be welcomed at the start of a regime.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper.

Catalog reference: KM PnA34, Peck-730.
