This specimen was lot 23608 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Shilling, ND (1603-04). London Mint. James I. PCGS EF-40 Gold Shield. Thistle mintmark. A wholesome circulated Shilling, well centered with just a few areas of strike weakness in the peripheral legend. The coin exhibits a medium to dark gray tone." The SCWC lists six different shillings for James I, none dated. This one is dated to 1603-04 by the thistle mintmark on the reverse. This type is available but expensive in nice condition.
