The specimen shown is an example of a type struck in Munich for Germany. Germany began minting euros in 2002. This particular specimen is a commemorative for Nordrhein-Westfalen, a German state. Similar issues are listed for Schleswig-Holstein (KM 253), Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (KM 260), Hamburg (KM 261), Saarland (KM 276), Bremen (KM 295), Bavaria (KM 305) and Baden-Wurttemberg (KM 314). To this writer's knowledge, Germany is the only country in Europe still operating branch mints; A - Berlin; D - Munich; F - Stuttgart; G - Karlsruhe and J - Hamburg.
