Germany 1966-D 5 mark KM-119.1
This specimen was lot 3089 in Steve Album Auction 53 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $60. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY: Federal Republic, AR 5 deutsche mark, 1966-D, 250th Anniversary - Death of Wilhelm Leibniz, a fantastic proof quality example! PCGS graded Proof 66 CAM, ex Joe Sedillot Collection. Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646-1716) was a German polymath active as a mathematician, philosopher, scientist and diplomat who is credited, alongside Sir Isaac Newton, with the creation of calculus in addition to many other branches of mathematics, such as binary arithmetic and statistics. Leibniz has been called the "last universal genius" due to his vast expertise across fields." This commemorative was struck only at the Munich mint. Plain edge errors exist (KM 119.2) and are rare.
