West Germany 1966-G 10 pfennig
This specimen was part of lot 27235 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), which sold for $317.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Federal Republic Two Proof Sets 1950-1965-G & 1966-G, Each set contains eight coins, Pfennig to 5 Mark. All coins are choice. The 1950/1965 set is an unusual mixture of these two dates as issued by the government." This type was produced at four mints (Munich, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe and Hamburg) in 1950 in such numbers that no more were struck until 1966. The Karlsruhe mint mark was "G". The last issue for circulation was in 1996 and the type was retired in 2002 with the coming of the euro.
Recorded mintage: 25,338,000 plus 3,070 proofs.
