This specimen was lot 75117 in Stack's Bowers May 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $366. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Genoa. 8 Lire, 1797. NGC AU Details--Stained." This type, struck 1793-97, is accompanied by a gold 48 (KM A245) and 96 lire (KM 251) which the SCWC notes as being rather more available. Genoa was occupied by Napoleon in 1798 and made into the puppet Ligurian Republic. Genoa never recovered its independence; in 1815 it was annexed by the kingdom of Sardinia and is now part of Italy.
