Genoa 1580-LB doppia Fr-419
This specimen was lot 1652 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 1,500 CHF (about US$2,176 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIEN Genua, Dogi Biennali, 1528-1797. Doppia 1580, Genova. NGC MS61. Das durch NGC höchstbewertete Exemplar. (Italy, republic of Genoa, biennial doges, 1528-1797, doppia of 1580, Genoa mint. Uncirculated, finest certified by NGC.)"
The SCWC lists this for 1600-09, 1613, 1616-21, 1624-29, 1633 and 1637 but, clearly, earlier dates exist. Half and double doppie also exist. Genoese coins were generally struck in the name of emperor Conrad II (d. 1039).
