Sincona sale 70, lot 3346

This specimen was lot 3346 in Sincona sale 70 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 3,800 CHF (about US$5,043 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Geneva | Stadt und Kanton. 10 Francs 1848, Genf. Rundes Genfer Wappen unter strahlender Sonne mit Christus-Monogramm. Rv. Wertangabe und Jahreszahl. NGC MS64. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (Switzerland, city and canton of Geneva, 1848 10 francs, Geneva mint. obverse: round arms of Geneva under a shining sun with the Christ monogram; reverse: value and date. Choice uncirculated, Magnificent condition.)"

Geneva minted five and ten francs in silver, ten and twenty francs in gold in 1848, the last year of cantonal issues. The gold ten francs is the rarest of the group.
