Sincona sale 101, lot 4174

This specimen was lot 4174 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$377 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, Stadt und Kanton, 1 Sol 1786, Genf. Silberabschlag. Selten. Fast vorzüglich. (Switzerland, city and canton of Geneva, one sol of 1786, Geneva mint, off metal strike in silver. Rare, About Extremely Fine.)"

The circulation issue (KM 87) was in billon but presentation strikes were also made in silver (KM 87a, shown here) and gold (KM 87b). This type was also struck in 1785 and 1788, the latter being the common date.

Specification: 1 g, billon, 18 mm diameter, this specimen silver, 1.33 g.
