Sincona sale 95, lot 4268

The first specimen was lot 3277 in Sincona sale 64 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 160 CHF (about US$201 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Geneva | Stadt und Kanton, 3 Quarts 1785, Genf. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. FDC. (canton of Geneva, three quarts of 1785, Geneva mint. Rare in this condition, Uncirculated.)"

The second specimen was lot 4268 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 400 CHF (about US$555 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, Stadt und Kanton, 3 Quarts 1785, Genf. Silberabschlag. Selten. Gutes vorzüglich. (Switzerland, canton of Geneva, three quarts of 1785, Geneva mint, struck in silver. Rare, About Uncirculated.)"

This type, shown here in billon, was struck 1753, 1763, 1775 and 1785. Presentation strikes were also made in silver.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.9 g, billon, 17 mm diameter, the first specimen 0.89 g, the second specimen 1.50 g.
