Geneva 1788-B sol
This specimen was lot 3331 in Sincona sale 70 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 425 CHF (about US$564 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SWITZERLAND | Geneva | Stadt und Kanton. 1 Sol 1788 B, Genf. Material- und Gewichtsvariante: Dickabschlag in Silber. Äusserst selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Fassungsrückstände. (Switzerland, city and canton of Geneva, one sol of 1788, Geneva mint, off-metal strike in silver. Extremely rare, Very fine-extremely fine, with mount mark.)"
This type was struck 1785-88 in silver and billon. The silver issues, such as is shown here, were likely for presentation. Twelve sols = florin, 12 florins, 9 sols = thaler = 153 sols.
