Geneva 1582-M sol

Sincona sale 91, lot 3244

This specimen was lot 3244 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 150 CHF (about US$198 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, Stadt und Kanton, 1 Sol 1582, Genf. Mzz. M. Selten. Sehr schön. (Switzerland, canton of Geneva, one sol of 1582, Geneva mint, mintmark "M". Rare, Very fine.)"

This type was struck 1536-40, 1550-76, 1580-97, and many dates have mintmaster's initials. One thaler was 96 sols.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.64 g, billon, 21 mm diameter, this specimen 1.43 g.
