Geneva 1572-G ecu pistolet Fr-249
This specimen was lot 5194 in Sincona Auction 102 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 3,750 CHF (about US$5,652 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, Stadt und Kanton, Ecu pistolet 1572, Genf. Gutes sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion NGSA 18, Genf, November 2022, Los 2188. Exemplar der Sammlung Virgil Brand, Part 8, Auktion Sotheby's, Zürich, Januar 1985, Los 226. (Switzerland, city and canton of Geneva, écu pistolet of 1572, Geneva mint. Good Very Fine.)"
Friedberg lists this obscure type for 1562-86 and notes that the last écu pistolet was struck in 1642. Many varieties exist. Earlier dates had alternating straight and wavy rays emanating from the sun; all the rays on this example are wavy.
