Gelderland 1649 ducat Fr-237
The first specimen was lot 2131 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 280 CHF (about US$347 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NIEDERLANDE Geldern, Provinz Dukat 1649. Fast sehr schön-sehr schön. (Netherlands, province of Gelderland, ducat of 1649. Very fine.)"
The second specimen was lot 72829 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Santa Ana, CA, May 2017), where it sold for $305.50. The catalog description[2] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Gelderland. Ducat, 1649. ANACS EF-40." The third specimen was lot 2585 in Goldberg sale 103 (Los Angeles, February 2018), where it sold for $458.25. The catalog description[3] noted, "Netherlands: Gelderland. Ducat, 1649. Knight standing. NGC graded AU-58." Gelderland, along with several other Dutch provinces, issued gold ducats from the sixteenth century until the termination of the United Provinces by Napoleon in the 1790's.
