Friesland 1583 cavalier d'or Fr-225
This specimen was lot 1045 in Schulman sale 375 (Amsterdam, April 2023), where it sold for €2,200 (about US$2,879 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRIESLAND Provincie 1581 - 1795, Friese gouden rijder. 1583. Type Ia. Ruiter met zwaard naar rechts boven stadswapen van Leeuwarden +NISI· DOMINVS – NOBISCVx Kz. gekroond provinciewapen ·MONE· NOVA· AV· ORD· FRISIÆ· jaartal·. RRR. Zeer fraai. Uit veiling Schulman 351 van 16 Sept. 2016, no. 148. (province of Friesland, golden rider of 1583, type Ia. Obverse: mounted knight charges over the arms of Leeuwarden; reverse: crowned provincial arms and date. Very rare, very fine.)"
This is not the same coin as the gouden rijder of the seventeenth century, which was 10 g, 0.920 fine gold.
