Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 41222

This specimen was lot 41222 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRENCH INDO-CHINA. Centime, 1885-A. Paris Mint. PCGS MS-62 Brown." This type was struck in Paris 1885-94 in substantial numbers and this is the most common date. It superseded a type struck for French Cochin China. Japan occupied the colony during World War Two and the French were never able to regain control thereafter. It is now Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.

Recorded mintage: 3,673,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 10 g, bronze, 31 mm diameter, designed by Barré.
