Künker sale 264, lot 3674

This specimen was lot 3674 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €2,800 (about US$3,617 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"STADT Dukat 1749. GOLD. R Vorzüglich. (Germany, city of Frankfurt, ducat of 1749. Scarce, extremely fine.)"

Friedberg lumps the ducats of 1725, 1742 and 1749 into one type while the SCWC separates them into three types. Each issue is slightly different, so the SCWC's position is probably the more accurate. All three are scarce.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW, this specimen 3.48 g.

Catalog reference: KM 206, Fr-996; J. u. F. 802 a.
