This specimen was lot 853 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €400 (about US$517 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"STADT Reichstaler 1625, mit Titel Ferdinands II. Sehr schön +. (Germany, city of Frankfurt, thaler of 1625, in the name of Ferdinand II, very fine or better.)"
The early 1620's saw an explosion of thaler issues as princes hired soldiers and bought weapons at the beginning of the Thirty Years War. This type is listed for 1625-37 but very similar thalers (Dav-5281, -5289 thru -5299), were issued from Frankfurt throughout the seventeenth century.
